Henry Ford College Nursing School

Henry Ford College Nursing School

Dearborn, MI

Constructed in 2001, this building was originally designed to serve as the UAW Family Child Care Center. The 33,000 square foot facility was acquired by Henry Ford College to help expand their growing nursing program. SES provided engineering for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems for the project, which required extensive renovations to meet the specific needs of the program. The building, which originally featured child-sized sinks and toilets, was upgraded into an adult-sized facility with multiple simulation labs, nursing, and CENA laboratories, as well as prep, observation and debrief spaces. Additionally, there are several classrooms, a library, offices and conference spaces, and two lounges for the students and staff.

In addition to providing engineering design services, SES was also tasked with commissioning the mechanical systems for the renovation project. The mechanical systems included variable air volume air handling units, VAV terminal units, heating hot water boiler system and area lighting control. The commissioning of the air handling systems proved complicated due to the fact that the rooftop units had existing packaged controls.
